Finding Noah
Finding rest, hope and humor in the midst of motherhood, ministry…and autism.

About this blog

July 2nd, 2007 by ec

I am writing this blog because I know what it is like to feel alone and overwhelmed while parenting a child with autism.  I’m hoping to connect, encourage and be encouraged.  I’m also trying to exercise the few remaining brain cells that I have left by learning new computer skills and writing.  Here are a few “need to knows” for this blog:

1.  I am a Christian.  I believe that the Bible is absolutely true and inerrant and that Jesus is the only way to Salvation.  I do not waver in that.  I have no intention of “preaching” at anyone.  However, my beliefs are central to who I am, so anything that I write is from that point of view.  Just so you’ll know.  I have no interest in debating deep theological questions…rapture theology, Calvanism vs. Arminianism, etc.  I’m just not that smart and I need whatever mental capacity that I have left to walk through each day.

2.  Besides educational therapies…speech, occupational therapy and Verbal Behavior, we are seeing a DAN doctor to treat Noah’s autism.  DAN stands for ”Defeat Autism Now” and involves treating the biomedical causes of autism.  This treatment is controversial in ”traditional” medical circles.  Some would even say that it is based on “junk science” and is used by shady doctors who prey on parents by offering false hope.  Our experience has been the exact opposite of what the naysayers preach.  We have seen Noah’s five year battle with horrible digestive issues resolve.  Noah has made great strides in his ability to communicate.  He is healthier now than he has ever been.  Because we have had (and continue to have) success with this treatment, I will be providing links and information so that you can investigate DAN for yourself.  Again, this is where I am coming from and this subject will definitely find its’ way into my posts.

3.  I have no interest in debating the validity of the DAN methods.   If you are interested in a sparring partner for debating the vaccine/autism controversy, efficacy of chelation for treating autism or the effectiveness of natural supplements, I invite you to google any of these topics.  You will have no problem finding a blog or group to join you in the debate.

4.   You will notice if you leave a comment that I am choosing to moderate before they are posted.  This is mostly because of item #3.  This issue incites some pretty emotional debate, and I’m really not up for hosting that here.

5.  Even though I’m moderating comments, please don’t be shy about leaving one!  I will do my best to keep up and respond when I can.

6.  Thanks for reading and God Bless!
