So I’ve managed to catch a little cold. Nothing too horrible, but it is slowing me down just a bit.
Here are some random thoughts from my snotty head…
- Noah has settled back down again after his rough day on Sunday. My best guess is that the dairy he got into this weekend jacked him up. It seems to have cleared his system now, and he’s back to himself.
- Doug gave a great message in church on Sunday about “abiding” in Christ. He used Pastor Damien Kyle’s description of the word… “abiding” can be likened to sinking into the most comfortable Lazy Boy imaginable, where you just rest and get swallowed up in the thing. We should rest, or “abide”, in Jesus just like that. I realized Sunday that I haven’t been doing much “abiding” lately. I’ve been stressed out, down and scattered in my head. It’s time to give up my striving and just rest and “abide”. Ya’ll smack me if I start running around like a buggy eyed chicken again.
- I’m hearing Noah’s “talking box” in the background. He used it to ask me for a sandwich with peanut butter (Sunbutter, actually) and jelly on it about 10 minutes ago. I obliged, but told him that it was the “last one”…since it’s almost bedtime and all. Now he’s going over his list of foods, trying to figure out what else he can scam out of me. What a hoot…
(And now for a little bit of snarkiness…)
- After watching the evening news tonight…something I haven’t done in about 6 months and something that I have no desire to do for a very, very, very long time…I’ve decided that we need to change the name of the condition that is “autism” and rename it “swine flu”. Today, after 70 confirmed “swine flu” cases in the United States, our President asked the congress for $1.5 BILLION to combat the threat. 70 (s-e-v-e-n-t-y) cases have set the underpants of our Congress and the CDC on fire to fund immediate and tireless research to find out how to combat the disease. Let’s go ahead and insert our current autism stats here and say that 1 in 150 children in America have “swine flu”. Bet we’d get a little action, huh? I could continue my snarky rant, but you get my drift.
(okay…snarky button off.)
Is this the most beautiful spring or what? (Okay, so I’m speaking to Central Florida peeps). It’s been in the 80s for a few weeks now, but strangely, we have very low humidity. We’ve been outside a lot, enjoying it while it lasts.
Well, Noah just gave me an angelic smile…said “last one” and hit the three keys, “peanut butter, jelly, sandwich” on his box. I can’t resist…I’m off to make him a sandwich.
Ya’ll have a great evening…

So this weekend was our quarterly Children’s Ministry Work day, where we prep all of the crafts for all of our Sunday school classes for the quarter. I’ve been really wrapped up in all of that since Wednesday, when I started purchasing the materials that we would need to assemble everything. (I’ve had my shopping list for a few weeks, but it’s so much more fun to wait until the last minute to do things.) All of the running around was totally worth it. In less than four hours yesterday morning, 21 of us cut, sorted and stapled our way to 12 weeks worth of lessons for 5 classes, prepped and ready to go. Woo-hoo for that.
So I’m rather sleepy and a little on the brain-fried side of life, but since I’ve been away from blogland for a few days, I’ll catch up with the following random thoughts…
Noah was off the chain at church today and had to spend some time out of his class. I’m trying to review the past few days in my mind and figure out why he’s off. Maybe something he ate…who knows. Hopefully he’ll chill soon.
Our garage door popped a spring and will not open. Need to call garage door man tomorrow.
No house news. Hopefully something to report…soon. We hoped to have realtors come over Friday, but that didn’t work out. This week…maybe…hopefully.
Boy I can’t seem to create complete sentences right now. I think I’d better sign off and try again tomorrow.
Ya’ll have a great night…

…or so he thinks.
So we do this thing with the boys where we have them respond, “Yes, Mommy” or “Yes, Daddy” after we give them instruction. We usually have to cue them to say it and it goes something like this…
“Noah and Isaac…come inside now. (pause) Yes, Mommy.” The “Yes, Mommy” response from the boys follows…most of the time.
Apparently Isaac has internalized this little strategy of ours and decided to use it on Noah.
We called the boys inside a few afternoons ago, and Noah was lingering out in the front yard.
Isaac threw open the front door and hollered out…
“Noah, you have to come inside now.”
He followed his command immediately with…
“YES, ISAAC”.
oh. my.
I think he’s taken this whole “I have to take care of Noah” thing a little bit too far.

We’ve had this…um…grass stuff…in the ground for over 5 months now. I’ve not seen a single flower on it…until this morning…

Isaac posed the following question to me this afternoon…
“Mom?”…”Do you have a little attitude?”
oh.
my.
Not ten minutes later, he threw his arms around me in a big bear hug…looked up at me and gave me the sweetest of smiles and said, “Mom…I think you’re getting a little bit fat”.
Okay ya’ll…say it with me.
oh.
my.
Apparently, I need to check my PMS at the door and put down the Milky Way Darks and ketchup covered potato chips.
